Goal: To divert over 90% of all hotel waste from the landfill by 2018.
Measure: Waste reduction efforts will be measured based on reduced purchasing of products, staff and guest feedback, reduce garbage pick ups, increased compost and recycling pick ups, and summer/winter waste audits.
Actions we will take to achieve our goals
Actions are broken down by responsible department/person, purchase and install cost, and whether it is an immediate action or a short term (Present – May 2014), medium term (June 2014- 2015) or long term (2016-2018) action.
|Compost all pre-consumer non-animal food waste from the hotel breakfast bar and conference centre - short|
|Use less paper in marketing – actively reduce the amount of print material, print only on demand and include a disclaimer identifying the paper’s origin and to “recycle when finished” - short|
|Add attractive four compartment recycling bins in common areas - short|
|Remove all stand-alone garbage cans around the hotel and ensure there is arecycling bin with each garbage can (and compost if applicable) - short|
|Conduct a waste audit in the winter and summer each year to see if goals have been reached and to reassess target areas, success, and areas for improvement - short|
|Once waste reduction measures are in place, reduce BFI bin pick ups and increase recycling pick ups - medium|
